The house rule

We take one wedding a day. Nobody is setting up behind you, and nobody is waiting for you to leave.

Hannah & Tom Ashdown · Hollow Oak Farm

The place

Four places, a few steps apart.

Ceremony in the garden, photographs in the orchard, dinner and dancing in the barn — and the cottage at the end of it.
  • The barn hall by day: oak trusses, long tables in ivory linen, candles and greenery, sunlight through tall windows

    The Barn

A threshing barn from 1790, its oak frame intact. 140 seated for dinner, 200 for the evening.

  • A rose-covered wooden arch on a lawn inside an old stone-walled garden, the sun flaring through the trees behind

    The Garden

A walled lawn, an oak arch for ceremonies outside and the long view west for the last hour of light.

  • A mown path between old apple trees heavy with red fruit, low golden sun and long shadows

    The Orchard

Forty old apple trees, a mown path for the photographs and lawn games under the branches.

  • A low stone cottage with a slate roof at dusk, warm light in its windows behind a flowering garden

    The Cottage

Two bedrooms, a deep bath and breakfast in the larder. Yours for the morning and the night.

The day, hour by hour

Eleven until midnight.

Thirteen hours, and the place is yours for every one of them. This is how most of our days run.
